"We are very proud to receive the Grand Award of Midi Coach of the Year, which reflects the appreciation and trust of the industry in our product. The MD 9 range was constructed with the customer's needs in mind. Our goal was to offer our clients a vehicle that will help them adapt to changing market conditions and travel patterns while making a profit. The Award confirms the industry's belief in both the concept and the quality of this product." - said CEO Mr. Tamer Ünlü after the award ceremony at the Busworld Fair in Kortrijk.

The jury appreciated the very-well designed body and the multi-functional character of the MD 9 touring version. The jury members also emphasized that the vehicle can be used to transfer passengers with voluminous luggage while offering them a lot of comfort inside: including luxurious interior with relaxing seats, WC, a kitchenette and a spacious driver area.

The industry's decision ties with the client's trust in MD 9. "There is a clear and increasing demand for more flexible, lighter and more fuel-efficient vehicles that offer the comfort and seating of a coach. The TEMSA MD 9 range based on our modular approach is a direct response to this trend", says Wim Van Hool, Executive Board Member at TEMSA.

TEMSA has so far received 150 orders. The first 92 vehicles have already been delivered, mainly to customers in Belgium, France, Germany and Sweden.

ABOUT THE EUROPEAN COACH AND BUS WEEK (ECW)

The European Coach and Bus Week precedes Busworld Kortijk - the world famous event for the bus and coach industry. The fifth edition of the ECW took place from the 15th until 18th October. During the ECW a series of trials, tests and presentations were conducted to allow specialists choose the winners of the Grand Award in different categories. In 2011, the jury paid particular attention to innovation in the areas of safety, environment, accessibility, comfort, technology and design.

ABOUT THE MD 9 RANGE

After having launched the TEMSA MD 9 as a compact bus catering for touring usage, TEMSA focused on enlarging its reach and developed also the MD 9 Intercity and MD 9 Low-entry versions.

The MD 9 touring's compact form contains a surprising amount of space. With up to 40 seats, a 280L fuel tank and a 5m³ luggage compartment, it's easy to drive tourists to any location. Independent front suspension and automatic transmission contribute to excellent driving comfort. First-rate ergonomics and a spacious, modern interior design ensures passengers and drivers enjoy a smooth journey. The stainless steel body is robust and light. Reducing the weight of the bus lowers its fuel consumption, making the MD environmentally friendly and cost-effective.

The MD 9 IC has obvious similarities with the coach version. It has a large middle double-door, an elevator and is wheelchair-accessible, and also holds a total capacity of 47 passengers (35 seated and 12 standing), all without compromising passenger comfort.

The MD 9 Low-entry has manual ramp, 4 special seats for mothers and children, and a total capacity of 63 passengers (25 seated, 37 standee and 1 wheelchair) or 72 passengers (25 seated and 47 standee) - however, this vehicle is currently a prototype.
